Harlequin Horizons, this is the name of Harlequin’s new venture, a Vanity Press. Their tagline: Share the emotion… Well, emotions are running high after this announcement.

Honestly, whatever the bigwigs at Harlequin were drinking when they made that decision, I want the same. Be a published Harlequin author–just bring money!! Nuts. I was curious what RWA would say to Carina Press, but now it’s getting really interesting.

ETA: RWA responds:

With the launch of Harlequin Horizons, Harlequin Enterprises no longer meets the requirements to be eligible for RWA-provided conference resources. This does not mean that Harlequin Enterprises cannot attend the conference. Like all non-eligible publishers, they are welcome to attend. However, as a non-eligible publisher, they would fund their own conference fees and they would not be provided with conference resources by RWA to publicize or promote the company or its imprints.

Holy cow. That is just brilliant. Thanks, RWA, you rock!

A groom in lust, an unwilling bride, one night of dominance both won’t forget.

Tanesha did the sensible thing when her Brazilian family arranged a marriage of convenience to another jaguar shifter. She made a run for it. Now living a cushy life as a call girl in Manhattan, she lost her virginity and her desire to have a lifelong mate in the same second. Up until the crashing stock market robs her of all her savings. Broke, she considers returning to Brazil.

Danilo, bitterly scorned when his virgin bride escaped from under his nose, is none too pleased to hear of her plans to return to Brazil. Gone is his desire to marry, even if a promise given still binds him. Seeking her out, he brings one million dollars, a leather cat-o’-nine whip, and the heated determination to settle a score.

And on her knees—the smacking sound of leather against her bare skin—Tanesha fights against surrendering to the carnal attraction toward the shifter she once scorned.

Released this week from Ellora’s Cave!

How awesome would be a e-reader in color? We might get one in early spring from Barnes and Noble, or rather from Plastic Logic. Here’s a link to the full article and pictures. And in Japan, they already have color e-readers! Fujitsu has released the world’s first dedicated e-reader with a color screen.

Time: Attack of the Kindle Killers:

Interesting quote about the future of e-readers, or if they have a future at all:

And there’s the looming threat posed by next-generation tablet computers. Apple, the king of cool handheld devices, is rumored to be readying a tablet computer with all the functions of a laptop as well as iPhone-like touch capabilities for release early next year… “E-readers are a transitional technology,” says Rotman Epps of Forrester Research. Which means that just when the e-reader is taking off, it may be becoming obsolete.

I love the photo gallery here–Nine Gadgets to Gawk At–almost as fun as window shopping for shoes

But bottom line is that I want to see the prices lowered. At the moment, some e-readers are still way too expensive. Oh, and DRM–it would be nice if DRM could become a thing of the past as well.

The Blog’s host, Sue, reads romance for her job–*envy*–and her two experts are Jane from Dear Author and Sarah from the Smart Bitches. Sounds like this is going to be a cool, fun blog, hopefully not too blatantly promotional. I wonder if the two Experts, Jane and Sarah, are aware that I now won’t have time to read their blogs. LOL.

Anyway, as a former Borders bookseller–12 weeks; looong time ago; easily one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had; even if they didn’t pay me enough so I could actually buy a book–I can’t resist this new blog.

Here I am, innocently browsing the publishing news at Dear Author, reading that Amazon possibly plans to insert ads into ebooks. I had to let that sink in a moment. Ads in books…wow.

Honestly, I feel compelled to call Amazon, or stop by their head office, and tell them just how much I hate the idea. For many people, myself included, fiction is a way to forget the real world, escape to somewhere else for a short while. I so do not want ads with my escapism, it’s disruptive. So, Amzaon, can I just say thanks, but hell No Thanks to ads in ebooks?
